Environment City Buildings

Sixteen Leicester buildings have been chosen to receive an Environment City Buildings Award. These represent a wide range of buildings, from homes to the town hall, and all have major environmental features built in helping to highlight Leicester’s status as Britain’s first Environment City.

Each award-winning building displays a plaque and is covered on both this web site and in a series of leaflets describing their main points of interest. The project aims to raise awareness of environmental building design and show what can be achieved. The ultimate goal is to inspire others to follow suit and share good practice.

The awards, supported by the Leicester Partnership and the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund, were made during 2003 and 2004. For every nominated building an assessment form was completed to ensure buildings had the environmental features we were looking for. To be successful, buildings had to reach a threshold score and have at least one showcase environmental feature.

Nominations for other possible Environment City Buildings are welcomed. Use the contact form on this web site to get in touch.
