Green Life Awards 2007

The third annual Leicester Environment Partnership (LEP) event, entitled 'Our Environment, Our Future', was held on 20th March 2007 at the New Walk museum, Leicester. The Leicester Green Life Awards ceremony formed part of the event. Judges were extremely impressed with the quality of applicants this year, demonstrating the commitment to the environment shown by a wide variety of people and organisations around Leicester. Four category winners, a special Climate Change award winner and one overall winner were eventually agreed upon:

Best Environmental Contribution by a School:
The Lancaster School

Best Environmental Contribution by a Business:

Best Environmental Contribution by a Not for Profit Organisation:
Groundwork Leicester & Leicestershire's Recycling Solutions

Best Environment Contribution by a Community Group:
New Parks Allotment Society

Best Contribution towards tackling Climate Change:
Leicester City Council's Supplementary Planning Document

The Overall Winner was New Parks Allotment Society whose members have put in many hours of voluntary work on their site for the benefit of the whole community. Projects include improving access for the less able, establishing a school allotment and a wild life garden, providing an environ-mental education resource. The work has benefited the whole community by regenerating a deprived area and helped the environment by improving this land and enabling more people to engage with their local green space.
