Climate Change

The City of Leicester Climate Change Strategy was launched by the Leicester Environment Partnership in February, 2003. This strategy aims to raise awareness of the issues surrounding climate change in the city and stimulate a public debate.

In response, Leicestershire green charity Groundwork Leicester & Leicestershire (GWLL), formerly Environ, and Leicester City Council are joining forces to launch a new media campaign, focusing upon how individuals can do their bit to reduce the city’s contribution to global warming.

The Keep Leicester Cool campaign will focus upon reaching the city's Asian community through new partnerships with MATV and Sabras Radio. But we will work with all forms of media as the campaign expands to make the project as effective as possible.

The real challenge will be to raise awareness about how individuals can do their bit to reduce global warming through simple, practical actions which will decrease their carbon dioxide emissions.

The Keep Leicester Cool campaign will progress by publicising nine important issues relating to climate change over a period of three years. These include:

1/ Flooding
2/ Home energy
3/ Local produce

4/ Health
5/ Renewable energy
6/ Gardening

7/ Recycling
8/ Transport/travel
9/ Saving water

Alongside these themes, a Top Ten of practical steps people can take to help prevent further global warming will be promoted.
